For almost more than three months I have been staying home due to the outbreak of covid-19. Schools were put in holiday as well, people were encouraged to stay and work from home. It was a long devastating moment for most of us.
However, we had more time to stay at home than before. Reading more books and accompanying kids at home.
Finally, two weeks ago our government allow citizens to go out and adapt to “a new normal life” with “a new spirit”
There were many interpretations on this new normal life. There were some people thought it was a day where people are living in a normal life, some were still scare to go out and hiding at home, some interpretations would be to go out and face the world with new cautious by keep the social distances, wearing mask, wash our hand with soap more often and stay away from a large crowd.
I choose the latest interpretations which is to stay away from crowd while allowing myself to do some activities.
After months of “lock down” , I finally get out cycling and feel the wind again. It feel so nice riding my bike again.
Jakarta Railway Station
I Really wish things will gradually getting under control and we live in the normal life.
Feeling wonderful let the wind blow my face again make me want to ride more and explore the places nearby.
I was a couch guy who never dream of running a marathon in my life. I believe that running Marathon is only for well trained athletes. Not for me in my late forty’s. Not at all. However, it proof that I was wrong.
When I was 45 years old, I started to run with friends for fun. I joined the local 5 Km road race. It was a horrible run, since I did not prepare mysef well in getting a proper training. Luckily, I was able to complete my first race.
Running become a new habit
Learning from my previous mistake, later I started to train myself by following a running programs. I had completed dozens of 10 KM and couple of Half Marathon road races during my first two years of running.
It was so interesting to see a lot of people like myself who enjoy running. I wish I had learned about running when I was much younger. Nevertheless, it’s better late than never. With proper training, I now have a better management in running and not gasping for air in the middle of the race.
During my first year of running, I was able to loose 8 Kg (17,6 lbs). My blood pressure has been stabilized. I became more positive and of course better fitness level than before. Running become my new routine that I enjoy until this moment.
Doing the impossible
Each achievement has built my self confidence. These experiences made me think of doing the impossible thing which is running my first Marathon.
Prior to the marathon training, I followed a building base running training. It is a necessity for every marathoner. Basically is just another 8 weeks of consistent running to get my body adjusted; gradually build my long run for endurance and improve my fitness level.
Marathon training is tough but challenging. I dedicated so many hours and energy to complete the training program. During those period, my spirit was high. I ran 4 to 5 times a week constantly. My longest long run in my training program was 32 KM.
I was so suprised on how our body easily adapt to a daily new routine. We only need to commit to ourselves and make us belief on what our body could do.
I was not a professional nor a fast runner. My main goal was able to finish a Marathon and proof to myself regardless my age, that I can do it with proper training.
My first marathon was at Standard Chartered, Singapore in December 2018.
My 1st Marathon Medal , 2018
I was proud of myself and happy that I had a courage to make a big change in my life and became a marathoner now. From what it seemed impossible, now became possible.
I became a compulsive runner and wanted to run more. I had completed 4 Marathons within a year. It was way to many. I should not do that again. I should consider to take some good rest before running my next marathon.
My last three Marathon I ran for a Charity. It was a Fundraising for “Save the Children of Indonesia”. I personally thank you for many of my friends and family who had supported me and had donated money to this fundraising.

2nd Marathon in Bali Indonesia
3rd Marathon in Jakarta Indonesia
4th Marathon Nov 2019 in Singapore
Reaching the finish line gave me a feeling of self satisfaction and victory after all the hard work and hours I spent during the marathon training.
Again, Something magical feeling made me want to run for another marathon in different cities or countries in near future. I always have in my mind to challenge and improving my marathon time. However, far more important is to run happily.
After the corona pandemic is over, I would like to run a marathon at Halong Bay, Vietnam. Follow by a bike touring from Hanoi to Ho chi Min City. Looking forward for these two events.
I hope my running journey will inspire others to run. By running, I could put all the anxiety away and live in happier and healthier life.
Running became a part of my new lifestyle now and I am happy with it.
Biak was under Dutch colony until 1963 and occupied by Japanese during WW-II.
During world war two, American lead by General Mac Arthur fought against Japanese who seized Biak Island. Many casualties reported from both sides. The Battle of Biak https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Biak started from 27 May 1944 – 17 August 1944.
In 1963 West Papua (Now Papua) finally returned to Indonesia.

The natives of Biak and Papuan (formerly name West Irian) are from ethnic Melanesian and they speak in local Biak Papuan language (people refer to a non-Austronesian language).

In Papua itself there are more than 400 local Papuan languages and dialects (latest development in 2019).
This Papuan Languages study was conducted by Papuan Language Researcher Mr. Yohanis Sanjoko. Each district has its own dialect and local language.
The majority of Papuan speak a national language which is Bahasa Indonesia (Indonesian Language) to communicate one another and it is such a pitty that only a small minority of Papuan speak in their own dialect.
Papua is one of Indonesian 34 Provinces.

In 2018 the total population of Biak-Numfor was 148.404 people.

The flight distance from Jakarta is about 3.305 KM (2.054 mile) going East.
Biak island has so many reefs, high cliff and corals. There are two main islands which are Biak and Numfor and some more than 40 smaller adjacent islands.
The northern part of Biak is another district, Supiori (110 KM from Biak city by car).
There are so many beautiful beaches along the island of Biak.

Most of the local people main job are fisherman. These fishermen lives in the smaller island surrounding the main island of Biak.
Nowdays, these fishermen are coming to the main island twice a week to sell fish and as return they buy some commodities before going home. All transport are by boat with small engine.

The nature beauty of Biak Island make a lot of people, including myself fall in love with the island.
One of my dream is to explore more by cycling around Biak, a small Paradise island of Cenderawasih Bay, to learn about local culture and it’s history.
Writing is one of my weaknesses among others. However, if I never start to write, I probably end up regretting never write anything in my whole life.
Therefore, this time I try to write on the things I like to do in my life. I love to share with anybody on my adventures and hobbies in traveling photography , running and cycling.
There are three things that I would like to do with my newly created blog:
1. My photographs
I like to take some pictures and would like to have a variaty categories on photographs. I like to take some potraits, social life, bicyclelife.
My New Hobby as a Cyclist
At this moment, I don’t have any priority or specializing in one particular photo subject. Maybe in near future, I will find my own photography style. At this moment, I just shoots in random subjects.
Mount Batur, Bali
2. My Marathon life
I started my first Marathon in Singapore, December 2018 when I was 46. I was get into a long distance running in my late 40’s. I wish I get into running in earlier age when I physically fitter.
However, running a marathon is not only physical but also mental.
“Time and distance is just a number for any run.”
The thing is how we run it each time.
So far, I had completed four Marathon in three places. Singapore (Dec 2018, Nov 2019), Bali (Sept 2019), Jakarta (October 2019)
My personal goal is to complete Ten Full Marathon by age 50. I wish I could meet my goal.

There are so many places I would like to go by bike, seeing other places, exploring different culture, taking photographs and have a lot of fun during bike touring.
It is easier to have a blog like this and able share all my activities in one place.
As time goes by; I hope my blog will be filled with most of the activities and pictures I would love to do
I started this blog during the second month of Covid-19. Since I stay at home and have more free time now I can start writing my blog.
I don’t know what my blog will looks like in months from now but one thing I know for sure, I am writing my first blog already and I feel thrilled.
